The 10 year anniversary of AN ANTHOLOGY OF SISTERHOOD!!!!! Our 5th scholarship recipient is Soror
Karla Marie Sanford who will be attending Columbia School of Journalism this Fall.
2022 In October we recognized the 100th Birthday of Soror Ruby Dee. DREF and the Arts and Letters Committee of Eastern Region held a program and fundraiser to help continue the funding for our scholarship. Our fourth
"Centennial Scholarship Recipient" is Soror Dawn Belton, a theater major at Bowie State University.
2021 Our third scholarship recipient Victoria Williams was our first Soror and first Graduate Student to win the
scholarship. Victoria was an Opera major and was continuing her graduate degree at Univeristy of
District Columbia in Washington D.C.
2020 Our second scholarship recipient Camren Williams, a junior Viola Major at The Juilliard School in New York,
received $1,000 from the Ruby Dee Legacy of Sisterhood Scholarship. Our nation experienced a pandemic a
and we were unable to present the award face to face but hosted a Virtual Celebration.
2019
Our first scholarship recipient, Tamiea Anderson, a senior Dance Major at Howard University, receives
$1,000 from the Ruby Dee Legacy of SIsterhood Scholarship. Yanique Moore, DREF representative and
Jamal Day, grandson of the late Ruby Dee helped to present the scholarship in Washington DC.
2018 The Co-Editors Dr. Francene Breakfield and L.D. Wells
Presented a $5,000 Scholarship Check to DREF and established the Ruby Dee Legacy of Sisterhood Scholarship at the Southern Regional Conference in Nashville, TN
